The wave itself moves in a zigzag pattern and can only slide along horizontal surfaces or slopes that feel weightless. To control it, you press and hold a key to fly upward and release it to descend. The game lets you choose between several input options, including the W key, the spacebar, the up arrow, or simply clicking.

Beyond its core mechanics, Space Waves offers three exciting game modes that expand the experience. Classic Mode takes you through different worlds, each containing a set of levels that vary in difficulty. Levels appear in random order rather than an ascending sequence, and their icons show cracks to signal increasing challenge. Some rounds allow practice with checkpoints, letting you restart from the closest point of collision, though these are limited.

Endless Mode lives up to its name by sending you on a never-ending journey. Each time you restart, a brand-new track appears, filled with unpredictable obstacles. Because nothing repeats, mastery in this mode depends on skill, adaptability, and persistence.

Race Mode shifts the focus to competition. You face off against random opponents, each with their own energy level. The objective is straightforward: finish first. Any collision sends you back to the starting line, and the race only ends once someone crosses the finish. Your ranking at the end determines your final score, making this mode fast-paced and thrilling.
