The Audi A5 is a compact executive or D segment class car in two-door coupe and convertible, and a 4-door Sportback variant, with a front-engine, front or all-wheel-drive layout. The A5 shares the B platform with Audi A4, deriving from the improved VW MLB platform.
The First Generation (2007-2016)
The A5 brings back the compact executive coupé to Audi’s lineup, a model missing since the Audi 80 coupé’s discontinuation in 1996. The Nuvolari Quattro concept has been used as the basis for the design, with a sleek and subtly aggressive look.
The official reveals of the coupé A5 and S5 was on the 6th of March, both at the Salon International de l’Auto in Geneva and the Melbourne International Motor Show.
The Convertible A5 and S5 arrived in 2009, replacing the A4 convertible. However, these convertibles were only available with a fabric roof and not with a hardtop.
The Sportback model features a fastback-looking roof combined with four frameless doors, sharing exterior features with the coupé, but more closely related to the A4 sedan.
In 2011, the A5 received a facelift with changes to the front and rear lights and front bumper, while the S5 got a 3.0 TFSI petrol engine, exterior, Quattro drive, and power steering updates.
