The Audi S5 is the high-performance version of the A5, produced since 2007 in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm in Germany. Just like all the other S models, it comes with a Torsen-based centre differential and Audi quattro system. It is available in a 2-door coupé, 2-door convertible, and 5-door fastback body style.
S5 B8/8T (2007-2012)
In its coupé variant, S5 accompanied the release of B8 Audi A5, while the Sportback was revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. It started selling in 2010. Externally, S5 is differentiated by the aggressive styling, featuring revised side skirts, dual-quad tip exhaust, bigger air inlets on the front bumper, LED daytime lights, bi-Xenon headlamps, chrome grille, and LED taillights.
The coupé was equipped with a 4.2L V8 32-valve FSI petrol engine with fuel-stratified injection with either 6-speed manual gearbox or Tiptronic automatic transmission. It has a rated power output of 260kW (350hp) and 440Nm of torque, capable of 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.9 seconds, and an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.
The Cabriolet and Sportback were equipped with a 3.0L V6 24-valve TFSI supercharged petrol engine with a power output of 245kW (329hp) and 440Nm of torque, capable of 0-100km/h acceleration in 5.2 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h. This engine was paired with 7-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. Despite the displacement and power difference, both engines performed roughly the same when tested.

S5 B8.5/8.5T (2013-2017)
The facelifted S5 Coupé switched to the same 3.0L V6 TFSI petrol engine fitted in S5 Cabriolet, as well as S4 Sedan/Avant, since 2010. It utilized start-stop technology to improve fuel efficiency. Visual updates include changed front-end, headlights, now with LED DRL's, grille, fog lights, and rear diffuser. On the interior, chrome accents have been added to the centre console and window buttons, as well as other minor updates.
Australian models include more equipment, adding adaptive headlights, heated exterior mirrors, tyre pressure monitoring display, and rain-sensing wipers.
S5 B9 (2017-present)
The current S5 arrived in late 2016 in sportback, coupé, and cabriolet body variants. The design has been completely overhauled, from the front grille, bumper, front LED lights, bonnet, sharp body lines, rear bumper and LED taillights. The interior received an update, including a new dashboard, virtual cockpit, Audi MMI, flat-bottomed steering wheel, and heated seats.
A powerful 3.0L V6 TSI twin-scroll turbocharged petrol engine powers it, delivering 260kW (349hp) at 5400-6400rpm and 500Nm of torque at 1370-4500rpm. It gives the car the ability to reach the electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h and 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds. Due to the turbocharger's placement within the V of the engine, the lag response has been reduced. The engine hooks up with an 8-speed automatic transmission and quattro drive, while the centre differential splits the power 40-60% in favor of the rear wheels, with the ability to send up to 70% to the front or 85% to the rear.
