The Audi SQ7 TDI, a high-performance variant of Audi's midsize luxury SUV, has accompanied the second-generation Audi Q7 since 2016. It comes with seven seats as standard, advanced chassis kit as an option, and a powerful high-tech engine. Many have criticized its very steep price and costly equipment.
While the exterior features slight changes to the standard Q7, it’s a different story under the hood. A brand new 4.0L V8 diesel engine delivers 320kW (435hp) at 3750-5000 rpm and 900Nm of torque at 1000-3250 rpm, mated with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, provides the formidable amount of power. It has an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h and can perform 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.8 seconds.
The SQ7, together with its platform cousin Bentley Bentayga brings the 48-volt electrical system into the auto industry for the first time. New MOSFET generator generates electrical energy at the 12V level to deliver 3kW of power, while a DC/DC converter transforms it into 48V. It utilizes a lithium-ion battery with 470Wh of capacity to store the 48V energy.
The electrically-driven compressor with electromechanical roll stabilization uses the 48V system and is arranged in series with the conventional turbochargers to support them in acceleration stages. It allows the compressor to be accelerated to 70,000 rpm in less than 250 milliseconds, allowing for faster boost generation.
The electromechanical roll stabilization is made by Schaeffler and consists of an electric motor with a three-stage planetary gear that separates the two halves of the stabilizer. Up to 1200 Nm of torque is applied continuously with a power requirement of 3kW, with two stabilizer halves actively rotating against each other to provide high-performance cornering.
