We are moving towards a future dominated by Electric Vehicles (EVs). A few years ago, Tesla seemed to dominate the EV market, but now many other players, including some of the biggest names in the car-making world, have joined in to claim their share in the EV market. We have already seen a few releases this year, each more impressive than the last. In 2021, we are anticipating the launch of some of the most brilliant electric SUVs in the world.
Human Horizon HiPhi 1
You might try to jog your mind to recall where you’ve seen the Human Horizon HiPhi 1 before, but that's because it shares a considerable resemblance with the Tesla Model X. This all-electric SUV promises to deliver 643 km on a single charge cycle with an electric motor that has 197 kW (268 hp). The battery installed in the HiPhi 1 packs 96 kWh. According to reported specs, the HiPhi 1 will go from 0-100 km/h in under 4 seconds.
On the inside, the HiPhi 1 houses a gorgeous 50-inch LCD and has automatic and electronically-controlled doors. There are a total of 562 sensors installed in the car that enables it to provide an autonomous driving experience, including a car-to-infrastructure (C2X) support. We are not sure about the price point of the HiPhi 1 at this time, although car parts would be inexpensive for sure. The Chinese manufacturer Human Horizon has hinted the launching to be sometime in 2021.
Rivian R1S
Rivian, a US-based EV carmaker, plans to launch a 7-seater SUV in 2021 called the R1S. A pick-up truck variant sharing similar features called the R1T will also be launched simultaneously. The R1S will have three battery pack options, including 105 kWh, 135 kWh, and 180 kWh, each delivering a range of 386 km, 499 km, and 660 km, respectively.
According to the reported specifications of the R1S, the 135 kWh variant will go from 0-97 km/h in less than 5 seconds. It will have Level 3 technology for vehicle autonomy and active air suspension as well. The price of the vehicle will be somewhere like $72,500.
Ford Mustang Mach E
The Mach E has been modelled after the extremely-popular car by Ford, the Mustang Muscle. Ford plans on launching the Mach E in at least five variants, including the California Route, Select, GT, Premium, and First Edition, with each variant carrying different specs, features, and price points.
For example, the GT variant is expected to deliver 342 kW (459 hp) and will be priced at around $61,000. The Select model will provide a range of 370 km at a price of approximately $45,000, while the Premium will fetch around $52,000 while delivering a range of 483 km.
Toyota RAV4 Prime
The RAV4 Prime has been dubbed by Toyota as the company's most powerful variant of the RAV4 to date, delivering 225 kW (302 hp) of cumulative net power. It means that the car goes from 0-97 km/h in around 5.8 seconds. It's not the fastest electric SUV coming out in 2021, but it is undoubtedly an impressive option considering other features, such as its Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive option and classy exterior.
On the inside, the RAV4 Prime has impressive car accessories, including a 9-inches display for multimedia controls and entertainment. The vehicle will come with integrated Amazon Alexa support, and will also be compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
It is important to note that the RAV4 Prime is not an all-electric SUV, but it does have the functionality of switching from Hybrid mode to an all-electric mode, whereby the vehicle will deliver an estimated range of 63 km.
Mercedes-Benz EQC
There is a lot to look forward to with the EQC by Mercedes-Benz. This all-electric SUV was initially expected to be launched in 2020, but now its release date has been pushed into 2021.
This vehicle packs a powerful 300 kW (402 hp) with a range of 450 km. It’s a bit premature to compare it with the Tesla Model X considering the company's extensive experience in electric car manufacturing. Nonetheless, the EQC still manages to impress with an 80 kWh battery pack and goes from 0-97 km/h in around 4.9 seconds.
The wheelbase of the SUV is similar to what we saw in the GLC, offering a spacious interior in addition to all those iconic Mercedes Benz parts we admire. The interior of the vehicle is packed with impressive features, including a 10.25-inch display for infotainment, insulated cabins to keep noise outside.
