BMW 2 Series

Like its predecessor, the 2 Series is a subcompact executive vehicle from the renowned German carmaker, BMW. With this new series, BMW aficionados get different body styles and performance levels. Some of the things that set out the 2 Series apart from other brands include its impressive 8-speed auto gearbox, a variety of turbocharged engines, and a cool rear-drive chassis. With a rear-wheel-drive platform, the steering may not feel the same as older BMWs, but keen drivers will appreciate its agility. Reliable performance, coupled with the reputation of the German carmaker, makes it impossible to overlook the 2 Series.

Body Styles

Since the launch of the first 2 Series in 2014, the range and style of cars in the series have been pretty diverse. The BMW Coupe was the first model in the series. Later the company released a Convertible, Active Tourer and even a Gran Tourer MPV model. An SUV called the X2 was subsequently added as the last car in the series.

BMW 2 Series Coupe

The 2 Series Coupe does not only offer excellent performance and exceptional handling, but it will also not break the bank. Before the introduction of the 2 Series, this model was known as the 1 Series Coupe, but BMW later decided to market it as the 2 Series Coupe. That said, the 2 Series Coupe is almost like the 2-door model of the 1 Series hatchback. It means that it also has a rear-wheel drive with a sporty engine at the front. You can also get the all-wheel-drive option if you wish.

To enhance performance while still improving fuel efficiency, all coupe models have turbocharged engines. You will also find a manual six-speed gearbox on the 218i, 218d, and even the 220d. The rest of the vehicles in the model range have an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

BMW 2 Series Convertible

If you are looking for a compact four-seater convertible, the 2 Series Convertible would be a great option. This convertible model has quite a range of powerful engines and is also fun to drive. Since this is a luxury car, it is a bit pricey, but many people are happy to fork out more for the cool benefits it has. You can find both petrol and diesel engines in the 2 Series. Petrol engines include the 3-cylinder 218i and the 4-cylinder 220 and 230i. The M240i also has a petrol engine. If you prefer a diesel engine, you can go for the 218d or the 220d. All of these have a reasonable price tag (apart from the M240i), but they have high-spec engines and automatic gearboxes that go with the price. It is also worth noting that the all-wheel-drive variant offered in the coupe lineup is not available in the 2 Series convertible.

Active Tourer

For those who want something new, BMW introduced a compact MPV style named the Active Tourer.

While the latter body style (Compact MPV) is included in the 2 Series model range, it is not built with the same mechanicals. For example, it features a special front-wheel drive (FWD) platform named the UKL1. Since BMW has not released a compact sedan with an FWD/AWD platform, the 2 Series continues to compete with newer models from other automakers. These include the Mercedes and Audi and other sedans in the market.

First Generation

BMW released the first generation of the 2 Series in 2014, and it's still in production to date (2019). It included two variants namely the BMW 2 Series Coupe (F22), BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (F45) and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer (F46).

BMW 2 Series Coupe (F22)

Also known as the F22, this includes a rear-wheel-drive coupe and convertible (F23) partly related to the F20 (BMW 1 series). BMW began manufacturing the car in 2014 and is still producing it to date.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (F45)

This model is unique since it featured the front-wheel-drive (FWD) UKL design. The F45 is a compact MPV that began production in 2014 till the present date.

BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer (F46)

Looking for a bit of space for a large family? The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is a seven-seater car with adjustable seats. The long-wheelbase vehicle began production from 2015 and is still in production.
