Dodge Journey

The Dodge Journey is a J-segment mid-size crossover SUV, first revealed at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. Dodge began manufacturing it since 2008 in a single generation, with the new one commencing in 2020. Internally coded as the JC49, Journey has the same platform as the Dodge Avenger. Compared to its predecessors, it has an identical wheelbase to the short-wheelbase Chrysler minivan, which is slightly shorter than the Chrysler Pacifica. It has a front-engine, front-wheel or four-wheel-drive layout.

Euro NCAP rated Fiat Freemont, a rebranded Journey, with an overall rating of five stars, with adult occupant safety score of 83% and 30 points, child occupant safety score of 82% and 40 points, pedestrian safety of 50% and 18 points, and safety assist rating of 71% and 5 points. 

NHTSA gave the 2012 Dodge Journey an overall rating of four stars, with frontal and side driver safety of five stars, while the frontal and side passenger, side pole driver, rollover FWD, rollover AWD received a four-star rating.

Standard trim level or SE includes 3x3 point rear seat belts, ABS, air conditioning, alarm, body-coloured bumpers, CD multi-changer, cruise control, driver's airbag, electric mirrors, folding rear seats, front electric windows, heated mirrors, height-adjustable driver’s seat, Isofix child seat anchor points, PAS, passenger's airbag, remote locking, side airbags, space-saver spare wheel, sports seats, steering wheel rake adjustment, steering wheel reach adjustment, traction control, cloth seat trim, steel wheels, aluminum hood, and composite plastic tailgate.

SXT trim level adds alloy wheels, cloth seat trim, electric driver's seat, front fog lights, and lumbar support.

RT trim level adds alloy wheels, audio remote, electric driver’s seat, front fog lights, heated seats, leather seat trim, lumbar support, and roof rails.

Optional equipment includes rear climate control vents, extra power outlets, infotainment system with hard-drive, interior child-view mirror, booster seats, theatre seating, trailer sway control, tire pressure monitors, and rear backup camera.

The facelift of 2011 brought redesign to the grille, lower front fascia, suspension, steering, powertrain, as well as interior updates, and Dodge’s new logo. After the discontinuation of the Nitro, Journey becomes the company’s smallest SUV. 

In 2013, Dodge released the Journey Blacktop, a model with 19-inch aluminium wheels and caps, grille, bezel headlamps, lower front fascia, as well as exterior mirrors all in gloss black color.

In 2014, Dodge released Journey Crossroad, with chrome accents along the lower part of the body and interior, smoked headlamps and taillights, larger bumper, black grille, rocker panels, roof rack rails, as well as skid plate simile at the rear. In 2016, Dodge discontinued the AVP and Limited trims, replaced R/T trim with the GT trim, and introduced the Crossroad Plus trim for the model year 2017.

Fiat rebranded the Journeys manufactured in Mexico as Fiat Freemont from the model year 2011. The markets in Australia, China, and Brazil, received both variants, with the sole difference being the offered engine options. Freemont was available only with the 2.0L and 2.4L inline-four engines in markets other than China, while the Journey was available with the Pentastar V6 engine. In Japan, Dodge marketed Journey as JC, due to the name already being taken by Isuzu. The combined sales of the Freemont and Journey from 2007 to 2018 amounted to 1,513,160 units.
