The Great Wall SA220, aka Great Wall Sailor, is a Chinese-engineered vehicle produced from 2001 to 2010. It was based on the Hover, with its structural design being similar to the Isuzu TF and configured either as a four-door crew cab or a two-door seat pickup. An upgrade done in its later stages lengthened its wheelbase and increased the interior space. It is available with either a standard double cabin or an extended double cabin.
Trim and Equipment
Great Wall Motors aimed to come up with an aesthetic and practical luxury pickup truck. The interior of the car is comfortable and roomy, making it an ideal passenger car. The model that was marketed in Australia from 2009 to 2013 was a 4x2 base model. Standard equipment included 15-inch alloy wheels, central locking remote control, engine immobiliser, leather seats, power mirror, power steering, power windows, rearview mirror with electronic display, and air conditioning. It also had a radio CD with four speakers, and the interior was either decorated in a coffee or cream tone.
Mechanical Features
Great Wall referred to the SA220 as the perfect example of a double-cab that combined style and practicability. A 2.2L GW491QE inline-4 petrol engine with a multipoint electronic fuel injection powered it, delivering up to 78 kW and torque of 190 Nm to the drive wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The average fuel consumption for combined driving was specified at 10.8 litres per 100 km.
The SA220 is equipped with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The braking system is enhanced and made more stable by a hydraulic booster setup. It has an independent front suspension fitted with two bearings with telescopic springs. The rear is served by leaf spring with variable stiffness and hydraulic double-acting shock absorbers.
The Great Wall Wingle, aka the V240 and also a pickup truck built on the same platform, succeeded the SA220.
Conclusion
The Great Wall SA220's production only lasted ten years and received little to no changes during this period. So finding spare parts may be hard.
