Holden v Ford

Over the years, it's been a fight between Holden and Ford in Australia. Two close competitors in the same country, both Holden and Ford have manufactured masterpieces of art and technology in their cars. But we all have a preference.

Despite car manufacturing in Australia experiencing a decline, the broader population of Australia still drives Holden and Ford cars. It proves that they are still very much in the heart of all Australians.

Holden has the Commodore, Monaro and Colorado. While Ford has the Ford Falcon, Ford Focus, Ford Territory, Ford Ranger and Ford F-150, these cars are beautiful, no doubt, but which brand is more reliable? We'll allow you to be the judge, but we can list the major features and characteristics of each brand of the car too.

Holden Commodore Vs Ford Falcon

These two cars have been at war since the '90s. Having been manufactured over several generations, they have both survived the test of time. Both Holden and Ford have made and showcased the very best of these automobiles to the world. Most probably before you were even born.

Holden Commodore

Gone are the day of six-cylinder sedans. It's a new era with 2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engines. The Commodore RS proves to have all you can dream of. This car is made up of a long list of automobile parts that are top-notch with advanced technology. To mention a few:

Engine-wise, the Commodore RS has a power of 191 kW at 5500rpm, a torque of 350 Nm at 3000-4000rpm, 9-speed automatic transition, and an engine system that's the second most economical in the world with a fuel consumption rate of 7.4L/100km.

Ford Falcon

You need to consider the Ford Falcon before deciding which car is better. Just like the Commodore, the Ford Falcon has been in the industry for years. It has evolved to the present-day Ford Falcon XR6 and XR7 Turbo.

XR6 Engine

The Ford Falcon XR6 engine is called a "V-bloody-eight" by Australians because of its power and outstanding performance. The engine has a 257 kW (349 hp) and a torque of 369 Nm. Right in front of the driver's seat, a 5.4-litre DOHC 32-valve V8 plays a significant role in the functionality of the engine.

XR8 Engine

The Ford Falcon XR8 is also proving Ford's reliability. This perfect piece has an engine system that is way different from those found in other automobiles. This car has a 4-litre DOHC 24-valve alongside a throttle that is electronic with a variable valve monitoring the cams. It also has a Garrett GT40 ball bearing turbo spin. These all work together with the 3.2-inch compressor wheel and 5.8-psi air.

Records Set by Holden and Ford

Holden and Ford have been in a close tie for years, each trying their best to deliver better automobiles to Australian drivers.

Let's take a look at the track records of Holden and Ford.

Bathurst

Bathurst race is a major racing event in which these two have fought to gain supremacy. The competition showcases the fastest. Holden has the upper hand in this category, having 32 championships to its name, while Ford has 20. When it comes to speed, Holden wins.

That's for the racetrack, but what about on the roads? Which is better?

Holden was at the top right until 1960 when Ford introduced the Falcon. The Falcon was more modern and more comfortable to drive compared to its Holden counterpart. Things took a slight turn after their landmark success with the Kingswood in the '70s when there was a fuel crisis. More focus was then placed on the Commodore. This allowed Ford to take the lead role.

Meanwhile, Holden was preparing quietly for a massive comeback with their redeveloped Commodore. Indeed, it was more powerful, and Holden went back to their leading position. Things continued that way until now.

Holden versus Ford in 2019

Today, Holden is still ranked above Ford on the list of the most popular car. On the other hand, Ford has been flying high with its new Ford Ranger.

These two car manufacturing companies have been bringing smiles to the faces of Australians for almost a century, but the question stands, who is more reliable, Holden or Ford?  Find out the latest automotive happenings from the World News section of Carpart.com.au
