Midsize SUVs have never seen a more distinct car like the Nissan Terrano. While it comes in other names like the Nissan Mistral in Japan and the Ford Maverick in Europe, the Terrano name has stuck well over time. This marvel of an SUV debuted in 1993 as a compact SUV that came with either 3-door or 5-door models and premiered as a front-engine four-wheel-drive car.
Though the Terrano hasn't had much of a history to begin with, Nissan considers it as the godfather of its modern compact SUVs. It influenced the design of the Nissan Qashqai, Nissan Pathfinder in the USA, the worldwide Nissan X-Trail, and the Nissan Rogue in the USA. Ironically, though, it doesn't share their glory, and it has only had one generation since it premiered in 1993. Its production life worldwide ran for 13 years until 2006, but it only featured in Australia for four years (1997-2000).
Production Years: 1993-2006
The Nissan Terrano premiered in 1993 with a groundbreaking release. However, it entered Australia only in 1997. The 1997 version featured three-door and five-door models that came in four trims. These models sported a range of 2.5-litre, 2.7-litre, and 3.0-litre engines and were named the Terrano RX and Terrano Ti trims.
- Terrano RX 4X4 that came with a 2.7-litre DT4 TD27Ti diesel engine with 5-speed manual gearbox that had 92kW of power and 278Nm of torque
- Terrano RX 4X4 that had a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder KA24S petrol engine with 5-speed manual gearbox that came with 92kW of power and 278Nm of torque
- Terrano RX Ti 4X4 that comprised of a 2.7-litre DT4 TD27Ti/TD27ETi diesel 5-speed manual gearbox that made 87kW and 191Nm of torque
- Terrano RX Ti 4X4 that consist of a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder TD27Ti/TD27ETi petrol 5-speed manual gearbox that out 87kW and 191Nm of torque
The Ti trims came with power mirrors, power steering, remote locking, and a radio cassette with six speakers.
Discontinued: 2006
The Terrano’s production days, however, came to a stop in 2000 for Australia and 2006 for the rest of the world. However, other Nissan models would later carry on Terrano’s design elements.
Despite the halting of its production, the Terrano remains to be a reliable mode of transportation. Should you need parts and auto spares for rebuilding this classic, hit us up at carpart.au.com.
