The Tiida’s name, though strange, is drawn from the Okinawan language that means the sun. It was the Nissan Sunny that set this tradition of names associated with the sun, including Pulsar, for a pulsing star. Dubbed as the smallest compact car in Nissan's lineup, the Tiida has seen a couple of generations of performance and service
The Tiida come in 2004 and has held the point for two generations from 2004 up to 2011. The compact car has had many iterations over the years with ties to popular name tags like the Nissan Sunny, the Nissan Pulsar and the Nissan Almera.
The Tiida first came as a concept car named the Nissan C-Note back in 2003. The C-Note was constructed on the Renault Megane platform and was showcased in the Tokyo Motor Show that took place in 2003. It was meant to be a new take on the compact car form that Nissan controlled form the Sentra but sport a luxurious interior and snappy performance.
1st Generation C11 2004-2012
The Tiida's first generation came in 2004. Nissan first designed it as the 5-door or 4-door C11 sedan. It took hold of the subcompact and compact models, selling them widely and covering both market segments. The Tiida came in the place of a variety of models like the Nissan Sunny B15 and the Nissan Sylphy. It featured an elongated wheelbase drawn from the Nissan B platform. Nissan released Tiida's 4-door sedan version together with its hatchback variant.
The Tiida featured a range of engines that were a 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre petrol engines and a 1.5 diesel engine.
- 1.8 L MR18DE Inline 4 petrol engine that made 93kW and 174Nm
- 1.6 L HR16DE Inline 4 petrol engine that produces 88kW and 158Nm
- 1.5 L HR15DE Inline 4 petrol engine that put out 74kW and 134Nm
- 1.5 L K9K 764 / 732(282) dCi Inline 4 (diesel) that produced 81kW and 260Nm of torque
Come 2011 the Tiida was removed from production gradually as Nissan took over the compact car market segment with the Nissan Pulsar.
B17
The Tiida’s second generation was preceded for a while by a small release from Nissan called the B17 that was a replacement to the C12 hatchback. In 2013 Nissan placed the B17 under the Pulsar in Australia. This B17 was a shift from the previous generation C11 class and came to take its place as a compact car by its increased dimensions. The B17 sedan came under Nissan Pulsar and Nissan Sylphy.
2nd Generation C12 2011-present
The Tiida's second generation was the direct successor of the 1st generation subcompact car but was now a fullfledged compact car. Although it premiered under several names, it mostly featured in Australia as the 5-door Nissan Pulsar C12 hatchback. It sported Nissan's V platform that steered the car coupled with a front-engine front-wheel-drive drivetrain.
Yet this was not C12's most impressive feat. To cap off the previous generation's performance, Nissan fitted the Tiida with the same drivetrain from the last generation with similar Pulsar trims to carry on the Pulsar tradition. These include trims like the base ST, the sport based ST-L, and the luxuriously-equipped ST-L that came with a1.6-litre turbocharged MR16DDT engine hooked up with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission. The ST-L made a maximum power output of 114kW. The ST-L Plus came with premium features included like push-start ignition, keyless entry, dusk-sensing headlights, dual climate control and satellite navigation.
The trim levels for the Nissan Tiida C12 first appeared in Australia in 6 trims, three trims each for the hatchback and sedan models

In 2009 Nissan introduced new ST Plus and ST-L Plus trims for the Nissan Tiida. These trims featured minor improvements on the car's drivetrain and mainly focused on being luxury trims for both hatchback and sedan models of the Tiida.

2009 saw the scrapping off of the ST-L trims in favor of the remaining ST and Ti trims for the Nissan Tiida. The ST model received additional features that include anti-lock braking, brake assist, cruise control, electronic brake distribution, an engine immobilizer, power steering and vehicle stability control. The Ti Tiida trim also had additional features like air conditioning, front fog lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a rear spoiler for the sedan model.
The Nissan Tiida has come in a variety of iterations like Nissan's ground-breaking i-Tiida. This model is designed to be more of a subcompact SUV inspired by the Tiida's form. Although it featured mostly in the Taiwan market, the I-Tiida is a much-awaited addition to the Australian market, and we hope it will roll down Australian streets. It sports Nissan's iconic V grille while the rear bumper's design is reminiscent of the Nissan C13 Tiida.
3rd Generation C13 2015-present
Since 2015 the Nissan Tiida third-generation C13 has been released but marketed under the Nissan Pulsar C13 in Australia, Europe, Russia and China.
The Tiida is a motor vehicle that spells class and performance. Regardless of its various iterations and marketing badges, all of Tiida's releases carried on the spirit of its forbears, the Sunny and Pulsar.
