The Peugeot 508 is based on the same platform as the Peugeot 407 and the 607, and it shares engine options with the second-generation Citroën C5. It represents a midsize sedan or wagon with a front-engine, front and four-wheel-drive layout produced by Peugeot, in Rennes, France, from 2010 to the present. For the Australian marketplace, it was manufactured from 2011 spanning through two generations in three variants, namely, Active, Allure and GT.
The First Generation (2010-2018)
Peugeot officially released the first generation of the Peugeot 508 in 2010 at the Paris Motor Show. Based on the PSA PF3 platform, it was a large family car produced as a 4-door saloon and a 5-door estate with a front-engine, front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive layout as well as transverse engine.
The 508 featured HDI common-rail diesel engines equipped with an electronically-controlled automatic transmission that enables the reduction of fuel consumption. Besides, a large fuel tank allows it to cover a range of 1,637 km.

In 2013, the Active 1.6T (sedan) and wagons added the following:

In 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, a hybrid-electric crossover estate variant of the Peugeot 508 was launched. The 508 RXH featured a 2.0L HDi FAP diesel engine producing 120kW equipped with a 28kW electric motor. There was an option of four working modes: AUTO, ZEV, SPORT, and 4WD.
In the Euro NCAP testing, the first generation was rated with 5 stars which included 90% for adult occupant protection and 87% for child occupant protection.
The Second Generation (2019-present)
At the beginning of 2018, the second-generation Peugeot 508 was launched as a 5-door liftback coupé, a 5-door estate and a 4-door sedan with a front-engine and a 4-wheel-drive layout. There are three trim levels available in three variants: GT in hatchback and wagon variant, Allure HDi in sedan variant and Allure HDi Touring in wagon variant.

The GT (wagon) adds 3D view, attention assist, automatically-activated hazard lights, body kit sports, cargo net, and chrome grille surround.
At the beginning of 2019, the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered Concept was revealed as a plug-in hybrid version. It comes with a petrol engine producing 147 kW and an electric motor at the front producing 81 kW as well as an electric motor on the rear axle producing 147 kW.
The second-generation Peugeot 508 received 5 stars by Euro NCAP which included 96% for adult occupant protection and 86% for child occupant protection.
