The Subaru Levorg is a recent addition to the Subaru family, having only come out in 2014. The car is about to enter the second-generation in 2020, though forecasts seem to suggest that Australia will see this car only until late 2021.
This mid-sized car comes only as a five-door wagon, with its Boxer engine set up at the front. One feature that’s hard to miss is its hood scoop, something that many enthusiasts seem to love.
All Levorgs come standard with symmetrical four-wheel-drive with Lineartronic CVT transmitting power to the drivetrain.
Subaru assembles the Levorg at the Ōta, Gunma (Japan) plant, using the same platform to build the Subaru Impreza, Legacy, and WRX models as well.
First Generation (2014-2019)
The first-generation Levorg is not as successful in the market as Subaru thought it would be. Even though they aimed to sell 13,000 units during the Advance Sales launch, they only got about 11,000 orders.
Once the car did hit the road, critics were disappointed with its performance and handling.
The car came with two engine choices:
- 1.6-L FB16 turbocharged H4 engine (with an output of 125 kW and 250 N⋅m)
- 2.0-L FA20 turbocharged H4 engine (with an output of 218 kW and 400 N⋅m)
Subaru Levorg hooked this up with Lineartronic, Subaru's trademarked CVT.
In Australia, the Levorg currently comes in a few versions:
- GT: a base model with a lower entry price and basic features
- GT Premium: with better features and more active safety gear included
- GT-S: with more passenger and cargo space
- STI Sport: a sportier version with a whole suite of STI accessories including STI spoilers, STI 18-inch black alloy wheels, and more!
Before the second-generation Levorg hits the market, Subaru released the V-Sport version of the car. This version was revealed in Japan in November 2019, though it doesn't seem to be available in Australia. It includes sports seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and uses a lot of piano black and chrome in its aesthetics.
As a fairly-recent Subaru model, the Levorg's interior comes standard with modern, high-tech features most drivers will expect. It's got built-in USB power outlets in the front and the rear, accessible by all passengers. Connectivity inside the car is also supported by the inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, it comes with satellite navigation to help you find your way to your destination.
Some versions also come with Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist. The system features dual built-in cameras facing the road which monitors how other cars move and warns you of any dangers. If you're about to hit another vehicle or run out of your lane, you can trust the system to keep you safe. It even adjusts your cruise control to make sure you're holding a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you!
The Subaru Levorg did also make a name of itself in the motorsports world. From 2016 onwards, the car has participated in the British Touring Car Championship as a manufacturer entry.
Second Generation (Coming in 2020)
So far, Subaru has only demonstrated a prototype version of the second-generation Levorg. Based on what they revealed at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, the new version of the Levorg will switch over to the Subaru Global Platform and carry a new 1.8-litre engine.
This version will have an updated exterior as well. For the most part, it looks the same as the first-generation Levorg. There are, however, new LED headlights, front guards, bonnet, and much more impressive grille. On the other end of the vehicle, the bumper has also been given a refreshing new design.
The second-generation Levorg is estimated to be available in Australia later in 2021.
