Volvo XC70

Volvo XC70 was introduced in 2003 as the second-generation crossover version of Volvo's executive estate, the V70. It spanned through two generations from 2003 until 2017 in Australia. It was a 5-door compact crossover with the all-wheel-drive layout manufactured in Torslanda, Sweden by Volvo Cars.

The First Generation (2003-2007)

The first-generation Volvo XC70 was launched in 2003 as a crossover version of the V70 with better ground clearance because of a raised suspension. It was based on the Volvo P2 platform, the AWD system was a standard with a wet multi-plate clutch. From 2000 to 2002, it was called Volvo V70 XC, but starting 2003, it was named Volvo XC70. 

The trim levels released in Australia were available in a single powertrain consisting of a 2.5L turbocharged petrol I5 engine (154 kW, 320 Nm) paired with 5-speed manual gearbox or 5-speed automatic transmission.

The Cross Country trim (base) offered the following as standard equipment:

Dual Front & Side Airbags, Anti-lock Braking, Automatic Air-Con/Climate Control, 16-Inch Alloy Wheels, Cruise Control, CD Player, Central Locking Remote Control, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Front Fog Lights, Engine Immobiliser, Leather Steering Wheel & Upholstery, Power Seat (Driver), Power Mirrors, Power Steering, Power Windows, Radio Cassette with Eight Speakers, Roof Racks, Trip Computer, and Traction Control System

The Lifestyle Edition (LE) added bi-xenon headlights, CD with 6-CD stacker, heated front seats, power sunroof, rear skid plate, and wood-and-leather-trimmed steering wheel.

The SE added a radio CD with eight speakers.

The Second Generation (2007-2016)

The second generation of the XC70 was launched in 2007 as a 5-seat wagon featuring a revised bumper with chrome on the front, the Volvo logo was enlarged, the side mirror indicators were changed to LED, and the rear lights cluster was redesigned.

In 2008, the XC70 Ocean Race was released, equipped with cross-stitched leather upholstery, Ocean Race door panels, colour-matched 17-inch alloy wheels, Ocean Blue and Electric Silver colour options, chrome window trim, silver-painted roof rails, and skid plates. 

Powertrain options available in Australia were: 

The XC70 was loaded with features and was geared up to compete with the likes of Subaru Outback before Volvo dropped it in favor of V90 and the other SUVs.

Aside from the features offered by the base model, this generation added side front airbags, dual-temp auto climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, brake assist, dynamic stability control, hill descent control, heated front seats, and power tailgate.

The D5 added central locking remote control.

The 3.2 LE added 18-inch alloy wheels, CD with 6-CD stacker, rear parking distance control, power front seats, and a power sunroof.

The 3.2 Teknik added lane-change warning, power front seat (passenger), and satellite navigation.
